Former NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Response in Murder Attempt Case
Ex- NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation related to a shooting that occurred in May, with his lawyer submitting a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Correctional logs in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his transfer to Florida. Brown, among the most famous players in the National Football League, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an email that he has earlier submitted a written not guilty plea to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday morning for a release session, Eiglarsh added.
According to his apprehension warrant, Brown is alleged of grabbing a handgun from a safety employee after a celebrity match contest in May and shooting two shots at a individual he had fought with before. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that a bullet grazed his neck.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was forced to take were purely in defense against the reported individual’s hostile behavior. Brown was assaulted that time and responded within his rightful entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not immediately apprehended because at first officers did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu delivered a full account about the incident to police and pointed out Brown as the shooter, the document indicates.
Based on his online updates, Brown had been living in the city of Dubai for several weeks. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by numerous individuals who attempted to take my possessions and bring bodily harm to me.”
A second-degree murder attempt allegation in Florida imposes a maximum 15-year jail term and up to a $10,000 penalty in the instance of a finding.
Brown has encountered multiple court challenges over the time. He before had been accused of physical attack of a delivery employee, multiple family violence charges, failure to pay family payments and further events.
During a recent match with Tampa Bay against the New York Jets, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and handwear and exited the arena, leading to his release by the franchise and virtually ending his football career.
Brown, who had 12 years in the NFL, was an elite player who devoted the bulk of his tenure with Pittsburgh. For his professional life, Brown had 928 receptions for more than 12,291 gains, the 28th greatest of history. He was a seven-time all-star selection.
